This course can be a stand alone (CPD) course. It can also provide access to the MBET Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling to those who are academically and emotionally able to benefit from such training. In exceptional cases, the qualification can allow access to MBET-L6.
In each teaching session, theory will be followed by therapeutic skills training.
This 3 segment of training aims at providing candidates with a sufficiently broad and deep understanding of counselling/psychotherapy theory and practice at level 4.
Successful completion of the course will provide a strong foundation to prospective MBET Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling candidates. It will also benefit others who are working or intend to work as mental health professionals.
At the end of the course, you will need to critically reflect on the following topics in 4 short essays (1000 - 1500 words).
- The therapeutic relationship
- Working ethically and safely
- Working with a user-centred approach
- Difference and diversity issues
This part of the course involves paying close attention to recorded counselling sessions (one's own and others) and thinking deeply about what transpires in the therapeutic encounter (between therapist and client). The training aims at preparing learners for therapeutic work in a range of settings.
This is ongoing and is based on observed sessions of the learner in counsellor role, and on the learner's capacity for reflective practice in group discussion.
The programme is designed for those who are interested in acquiring the knowledge, understanding and skills required in order to benefit from higher level training in an integrative approach to counselling and/or psychotherapy.
Prospective candidates will need to demonstrate evidence of their ability to work at level 4 and to be
open to new learning.
